New Song: "Racing To Planet Rho" released at Revision 2012

Just as I expected, this year's Revision demoparty was even more awesome than the one last year. I met a hell of a lot cool people there, like most of the TRSi crew (thanks nerdine for showing me around!) I had a very nice chat with anni from Nectarine, Neoman who is currently working on his very own additive synth for Milkytracker, and of course Revival and Punqtured who were incredibly busy working on their 64k demo entry, which fell a bit short on the competition but was still rather awesome, especially the syncing between sound and animation was exceptionally well done. Without realizing at first we found ourselves seated next to the guys of Approximate, who won the 64k demo compo with their excellent prod 'Gaia Machina', Meaty wrote his very own synth for this and apart from some clipping grass in the windmill scene, this was a lovely feast for eyes and ears. The two other prods I really enjoyed were 'felix's workshop' by Ctrl-Alt-Test and Razor's 'the scene is dead' with its fast-paced tunnel-flights. In fact, the 64k and Amiga compos were much stronger in terms of quality than the full-but-rather-weak pc competition, it was still very enjoyable tho!

As for myself, my song for the streaming music compo sadly didn't make it, my 4 channel Amiga .mod track placed 11th out of 16.

For my third submission I teamed up with Revival/Fnuque once again to write a tune for the 32k executable music competition, using his excellent synth 'quiver'. With 3 major synths out there (namely v2, 4klang and quiver) and even more promising projects showing up on the horizon there seems to be an increasing interest in executable music these days. All of the music entries were rather nice, and while h0ffman and gargaj blew the competition out of the water with their joint venture track, I scored 3rd place at least, wohoo!

Some song data:
- a total of 12 quiver instruments on 12 individual tracks
- no additional synths or effects used
- only 8 bytes short of exceeding the 32kb limit :)

Revision Demoparty 2012 in Saarbr�cken, Germany

Revision 2012 is just one week away from now, the world's biggest Demoscene Party will happen for the second time during the easter weekend from 06th to 09th April. And once again I will be there to take part in not just one but all three of the music competitions and hopefully beat the preselection in at least one of the categories so you can check out my brand new delicious tracks!!!

It will be totally awesome to meet old friends and new people alike. If YOU are there too you should hit me with a message on #revision on IRCNet during the party weekend so we can have a beer together!

And for those of you who can't make it to the party - make sure to tune into the SceneSat Radio livestream and listen to all the competitions and live DJ sets, because they'll rock hard! Of course all my new tracks will be released here on SunSpire-Records too after the party.

New Song: Flight Of The Alpha Centauri

It's the new year and I present you my latest track "Flight Of The Alpha Centauri". Possibly my biggest endeavour yet, this song features over 50 individual audio tracks and more than 50 different instruments. It took about a full week to complete, just in time for the Icons 2012 Demoparty, which was held in a cinema in Finland on 21st january. The song placed 5th in the music competition, yay!

There's plenty more to come this year, so stick around and support me! :)

BassHut - Happy Hardcore XMAS EP 2011 released

It's fun to stray away from the usual music styles for once and do something totally different and unexpected, like adding hardcore beats to a cheesy christmas tune! Thus I contributed a little track for BassHut's Happy Hardcore XMAS 2011 EP album, which was released today. It's free, and there are some excellent tracks on there, so if you wished for 'not so silent' nights this christmas week, give this album a listen and watch the gingerbread men dance to the beat while heating up inside the oven!

Live Radio Broadcast From "The Ultimate Meeting 2011" Demoparty, 27th - 29th December

That's right, Topy44 and I are back to end the year with a BANG - offering you a SceneSat live broadcast with the very best from the last demoparty of the year - The Ultimate Meeting, in Karlsruhe. Some 200 sceners are expected, and there will be plenty of new releases in all of the competitions held. And we might have a few interviews in stock for you with coders, musicians and party organizers.

2 New Songs: "Sunset Nebula" and "Once Upon A Quiver" and back from TRSAC and Kindergarden 2011

Howdy all! I'm back from my trips to Denmark and Norway, and it's been tremendous fun. I met up with Punqtured of Fnuque, together with Okkie we did a tour through Copenhagen and the canals before heading to TRSAC in Arhus. The party atmosphere was brilliant, first I felt a bit left out due to all the danish chatter around me, but by saturday that feeling was gone and everyone's been really cool .. and really drunk :P A handful of us partie'd on until 7am in the morning. I met lug00ber, Puryx, Hazel for the first time, and of course catching up with truck, Ziphoid and many others I met before. My track "Sunset Nebula" scored 4th place in the music compo, yeeaahh!! :D

2 weeks later and I found myself in Norway, my friend Sentcool actually dragged me here. We took a flight to Oslo followed by a train to Haga, which is basically nowhere! :P And we brought a tent as well for some chilly november camping!! First at the party place on friday, greeted saturday by Leija and Gargaj and together we built up the place that would become known as the 19th Kindergarden Demoparty - but our first in person. I had met Ralph of Fnuque at TRSAC before, over the last 5 years he's been developing a rather nice VST synth named "Quiver" which allows the creation of files suitable for 32k executable music (a runnable .exe program that is only 32kb in size, including the entire synth and music). I had recently attempted my first track in Quiver, so Punqtured suggested I should submit it in the 32k executable music compo. It needed some heavy re-work on my part but thanks to Punqtured the bass-drum turned out really phat! :D

The track scored 1st place!! Thanks guys!!!!! :D

I've not won a compo before so this really made my day. And I've learned a few new tricks in music production along the way, thank you everyone for your support! Special thanks and greetings must go to Punqtured and his wife Bettina, as well as Arcane and his girlfriend Plusone, who are the nicest people to be around with and the most excellent hosts during our stay in Denmark and Norway. A demoparty where you make new friends like these are the best demoparties indeed!

TRSAC Demoparty, 21st - 23rd October 2011 in Aarhus, Denmark

What you see above is the party report from last year's TRSAC - which has to be one of the craziest Demoparties around, so naturally I've been wanting to attend this year's party for quite some time now, and I will be! First tho we're going to have a nice tour through Copenhagen, about 300km east of the party place. Then on saturday it's the big fat compo night and if you haven't figured it out already - I'll be submitting a kickass tune of course! You better believe it :)

Also expect some more new music and surprises over the next few months, the year isn't over just yet!

New Song: "Free Fall Through Time" released at Sunrise 2011, UK

So here it is! Released at Sunrise 2011 Demoparty where it scored 8th place (or 7th if you consider the two 3rd ranks in the music compo) I wrote the complete song in about 20 hours just before the compo deadline, whew! It's labelled the "party" version because I could not stuff all of my ideas into 4 minutes of music and I might be doing a longer version of this if there is enough interest. I'm quite pleased with the result however and I hope you will be too! :)

Sunrise Demoparty, 9th - 11th September 2011 in Luton, United Kingdom

Sundown 2010 was the party that started it all for me last year, and while there won't be a Sundown this year, the UK sceners - with the help of a few well known german demoparty organizers - managed to put together a replacement party that is fittingly named "Sunrise Demoparty" in Luton, England.
Once again it's time for meeting great people, making great demos and music and participate in glorious competitions!! All of it which you can follow online this weekend by tuning into SceneSat Radio.

Of course I'll be sending in a brand new track again as well, don't miss it .. ;)

New Song: "Digital SpaceRock"

At Revision, I ate their delicious cheese .. now I sent a remote track to say "Thank You!" or something along those lines. Seriously tho, this was my compo entry for "Buenzli 20" in Switzerland - or "Demodays" as it is now known. Despite having seen the prizegiving ceremony online, I don't actually know which place this tune scored. It didn't win, I know that much .. but it's not all about winning anyway, I appreciate the feedback from you guys more than anything! That said, I hope you like it! :)

Oh and if you wonder what happened to my track for Evoke, it's basically this one but released at Buenzli!

Brand New Pax Drivers for Creative Audigy Sound Cards for 32/64-bit Systems

If you happen to be a devoted Audigy soundcard user (like myself!) but are frustrated with the catastrophic driver support from Creative (or lack thereof) you're going to jump for joy when I tell you now that TODAY there has been a new release by Robert McClelland's PAX Audigy Drivers for all Audigy cards for XP x86/x64, Vista x86/x64 and Windows 7 x86/x64 systems!!

It's great to see this audio card still being supported, and it runs marvellously in my XP x64 system with all the fancy EAX sound effect sliders that you can't find on newer Creative cards! (no EAX sliders in Win7 yet, tho!)

(one of the strongest features of all Live!/Audigy cards are the countless realtime effects directly produced by the hardware, later cards and drivers got rid of it in favor of cheap EAX presets)

First install the PAX drivers, then install your original Audigy software that came on your card's Install CD, you can find a bunch of them here. Then run the installer and check the boxes of the stuff you want to install but uncheck the "audio drivers"

2 New Songs: "Ashita No Taiyo" and "Fifty Five Miles Of Open Road"

It's finally here!! "The Sound Of SceneSat Vol. II", first released at Revision Demoparty, is a MASSIVE music disk compilation with a total of 73 tracks and over 6 hours worth of music from some of the best currently active artists the demoscene has to offer. Styles range from ambient chillout to trance, dubstep, rap and from psychedelic rock to metal, a truly breath-taking mix of tracks with something to please every music lover out there. And the best of it all .. it's completely free!!!!!!

Originally I made this track about 2 years ago for my long overdue album project, however since that is not fully materializing yet I thought maybe you'd find it to be a valuable addition to "SoS-II" instead, and so I wanted to share it with you. This song represents some of my experiences of life in the United Kingdom, it's a song about friendship and dedication and one of my favorite pieces to date. Revision Demoparty in Saarbruecken, Germany, April 22nd

Europe's biggest demoparty Revision is coming up this easter-friday 22. April, and there will be four long days of pure demoscene madness with lots of cool demo and music releases. If you've never been to a demoparty before, Revision is the place to go!!! Myself and a group of sceners will be taking the train down south on friday morning, a good 10 hour journey from Bremen to Saarbruecken, packed with only the bare living essentials - such as computers, mp3 players, lots of drinks and stuff ... you get the idea :)

Ziphoid will be streaming the whole event live on SceneSat Radio and there will be a big surprise release after the competitions.

I too have been working on various new tunes that I'll be releasing at the party, so expect some neat updates here this easter weekend!!! :)

A Happy New Year .. with side effects.

It's the new year and I got a lot of new music projects on my schedule, but sadly I haven't got a computer! That's right, when I returned to Germany in December I shipped all my personal belongings abroad with Parcelforce. And they managed to lose two of the parcels, one of them was my PC!!! The support staff on the phone were extremely unhelpful, and after wasting a month worth of calls I finally gave up, my stuff is gone. I'll now have to claim for compensation, a tedious process ...

So without a computer, I can't make any tunes. Well almost, I got an EEE netbook to play around a bit, but as for full scale music production, I'm afraid things will have to wait until I can afford a more powerful system.

Just as planned I attended The Ultimate Meeting 2010 Demoparty in Karlsruhe, and moderated my first ever radio show which was excellent fun! I met a lot of cool new people there, including Topy, wysiwtf, Ragnarok, also "the belgians" were there once again and many more!! The next upcoming party will be Revision 2011 in Saarbruecken, and despite my lack of a computer I will be there, YOU should be too!!! :)

Both David Hanlon (Dragon's Breath composer) and Andrew Bailey (the programmer) commented on my Dragon's Breath remake on Youtube, this is such a great honour! :D Check out Andrew's new site, drop spider games and find a remake of the classic C64 game "Druid" for pc and iphone, called Golem Defense!

And finally I would like to thank all of you out there who commented on my songs and remakes, there's no greater honour for an artist than to receive feedback from its listeners!! :) I promise once I got a new home studio set up, there will be lots of new stuff to come this year - and some surprises scattered across the year too! ;)

Live Broadcast from The Ultimate Meeting 2010 Demoparty

After 7 wonderful but tough years in the UK, I am finally returning to Germany. This decision did not come light hearted however, it is just a last resort to the ever worsening living conditions that I found myself in recently - a house with no heating, no running water due to the extremely icy cold weather, mice crawling all over the place and a dodgy landlord that doesn't give a crap about things - it's time to move on!

Good news still, because I will be attending "The Ultimate Meeting 2010" Demoparty in Karlsruhe, Germany from 27th - 29th December, where I will co-host a live radio show with Topy44 for SceneSat Radio! As this years' party will focus on scene events and releases from the last decade (so it says on the site, anyway!), I have prepared a wide range of musical goodies to support this while Topy44 will cover all aspects of the music compos, it's going to be one heck of a show!! - not just because it is the 1st time ever I am actually doing such a thing! Haha .. it'll be awesome!! :)

So whether you're a scene member or a fan of alternative and electronic music, on the 27th of December head over to SceneSat and keep an eye on the schedule so you won't miss out on the fun!!!

A trip to the starfields far beyond our solar system. This song is is a mix of ambient chillout and rock elements, and was my submission to the TRSAC 2010 Demoparty in Denmark. It placed 8th.

New Song: Funky Fajitas (Main 2010 Demoparty Release)

This was my entry for this year's 'Main#5 Demoparty' in Marseille, France - composed just hours before the deadline. It placed 13th, short on the competition but despite that it was still tremendous fun and I hope some people might find it enjoyable.

Back from Sundown and new song "Whispers Of The Wild"

I'm back from the party and what can I say, it was fantastic!! :D I met so many cool people from the scene and we've had a lot of fun listening to music compo entries, watching demos on the big screen, drinking Budweiser beer and playing future pinball ;) Everyone's been very busy polishing their compo entries just minutes before the deadline. Oh and don't forget the fire by the seaside saturday night:

My submission for Sundown was a psychedelic / prog rock song called "Whispers Of The Wild". It placed 7th in the newschool music compo so didn't win a prize but the claps and cheers from the audience were all that was needed to make me happy, it was quite a lovely experience!! For anyone interested in the full song (not the cut-down 5 minute version played at the party) I have added it here:
